Heart-shaped headstones, engraved in slate

The 25×25 cm heart costs 75, with VAT and the full engraving: colour photograph, name, dates and the message you choose.

It is one of the shapes people most often ask us for by name. This page tells you the price, the exact size, where this shape sits well — and what to do when the space on the grave calls for something else.

Price and size

One shape, one price, no small print

Heart 25×25 cm75
  • Natural slate, cut into a heart
  • Photograph engraved in colour
  • Name, dates and a message of your choice
  • VAT included

What is not inside is the transport: the shipping cost changes with the destination and is stated in the quote, with the final figure in plain sight. It is a price in the middle of our table — neither the smallest shape, which starts at 35 €, nor the largest, which goes up to 230 €.

If you asked for the heart in another size

It happens a lot, and it is a fair question: the heart comes in one size only, 25×25 cm. We do not make larger or smaller hearts, and we would rather say so before letting you count on it.

When the space on the grave calls for a larger piece, the way forward is a rectangular shape. The ones most chosen for that step are these:

14×22 cm35
20×20 cm49
20×30 cm (folha A4)75
30×20 cm90
24×32 cm100
32×24 cm120
30×40 cm130

The full table, with the ten shapes and the price of each, is on headstones for the cemetery.

Some call it a frame, some call it a stone, some call it a headstone

It is all the same piece, and there is nobody to correct here. Whoever writes "heart-shaped frame" is thinking of what they see: a photograph with a heart-shaped outline, to place on the grave. Whoever writes "heart stone with a photograph" is describing the material.

The only difference worth explaining is technical: there is no glass, and there is no frame to come loose or fill with water. The photograph is engraved in colour into the slate itself, with the name, the dates and the message. That is what makes the piece hold up outdoors.

A glass frame

It has a paper photograph inside. Outdoors, the glass breaks, damp gets in and the photograph fades.

An engraved slate plaque

The image is part of the stone. There is nothing to break or replace, and it cleans with a damp cloth.

There are close-up photographs, with the colour engraving in view, on personalised headstones with a photo.

Where this shape sits well

Four situations where people ask us for exactly this shape

Small graves and earth burials

The heart takes up little width and does not force you to remove what is already there. On graves where a half-metre rectangular plaque would not fit, this shape goes in.

Ossuaries and niches

It is where the heart appears most. The space is narrow, almost always standardised, and the piece has to sit without any building work.

A child

It is the reason people most often write to us about this shape. There is nothing to add to that — only to say that the engraving is the same as on the other shapes, with the colour photograph.

A second plaque, beside the main one

The grave already has the headstone with the name and the dates, and the family wants to add the photograph or a dedication. The heart is the frequent choice for that second piece — as explained on the photo for an existing grave page.

If yours is the last case — the grave already exists and only the photograph is missing —, the process is explained step by step on photo for an existing grave. For niches and vaults, see headstones for vaults and ossuaries.

You see the piece as an image before paying a cent

We send you the design of the heart already assembled — the photograph placed, the name, the dates and the message as they will be engraved — by WhatsApp or by email. At that stage you can change anything: swap the photograph, correct a date, change the message.

Payment is by MB Way to 910 053 138, and only after you approve the final design. Never before. We ask for no deposit and no advance, and nothing is engraved without your yes.

The workshop is at Rua de João Maia 29, 4475-129 Maia, in Porto, and you can come by whenever you like — arrange it first on WhatsApp so someone is there to receive you. Who we are is on about us, and the Google reviews are public and do not pass through us.

From first contact to delivery

Four steps, and your yes before payment

01

Tell us the space

The measurement of the free space on the grave, or a photograph of it as it is today. If the heart will not fit, we tell you which of the shapes suits.

02

Send the photograph and the text

The original photograph, the name, the dates and the message, if you have already chosen it. None of this has to come decided all at once.

03

You approve the design

We send the image of the heart with everything in place, by WhatsApp or email. You can change whatever you want, as many times as you need.

04

You pay and receive

Payment by MB Way after your approval, never before. Production in 7 to 14 working days counted from that yes, with tracked shipping.

The photograph is the part that shows the most

On a 25×25 cm heart the photograph takes up almost the whole piece, so the sharpness of the file counts for more here than on a large shape with a lot of text.

  • Send the original photograph, not a copy that has already been forwarded many times. Every resend through messaging apps takes sharpness away, and sharpness is what shows on the stone.
  • If you only have it on paper, photograph it straight on, in good natural light and with no shadow over it. That is perfectly enough.
  • If the photograph will not give enough sharpness, we say so — instead of engraving it and letting the family find out later.

Order your slate heart

The 25×25 cm heart costs 75 €. Fill in what you know — a person answers, not an automated form. If you do not yet know whether this shape fits the grave, tell us the measurement of the space and we will tell you. No payment before approving the design.

Width × height in centimetres, if you already know them. It lets us confirm that the 25×25 cm heart fits; if it does not, we tell you which of the shapes suits.

How long it takes, counted from when

Production takes 7 to 14 working days, and that period counts from the approval of the design — not from the date you write to us. On top of the production time comes the transport to the delivery address, stated in the quote.

The slow part is usually not ours: it is choosing the photograph and the message. Whoever has a date in mind — an anniversary, a mass — should allow for that time too, and write to us before every decision is made. We help with the piece while the family decides the rest.

FAQ

Questions from people looking for the heart shape

How much does a heart-shaped headstone cost?

The 25×25 cm slate heart costs 75 €, with VAT included and the full engraving: colour photograph, name, dates and the message you choose. Shipping is stated in the quote, because it changes with the destination.

How much does a heart-shaped frame cost?

It is the same piece, and the price is the same: 75 €. Many people call the plaque a frame, and it makes sense — what you see is a photograph with a heart-shaped outline. The difference is that there is no glass and no framing: the photograph is engraved in colour into the slate itself, which is what makes it last outdoors.

Does the heart come in 30×25 cm?

No. The heart comes in one size only, 25×25 cm, and that is the size we produce. If the space on the grave calls for a larger piece, the way forward is a rectangular shape — 24×32 cm for 100 € or 30×40 cm for 130 €, for instance. Tell us the measurement of the space and we will tell you which one suits, without selling you a heart that will not sit.

Is the photograph in colour?

It is. The engraving is in colour on the slate and it is made to stay outdoors, in sun and in rain. Ask us for close-up examples before deciding: there are photographs of real work on the personalised headstones with a photo page.

Do I have to pay before seeing how it turns out?

No. We first send the image of the complete design — the photograph already placed in the heart, the name, the dates and the message. Only after you approve it is there payment, by MB Way to 910 053 138. We ask for no deposit or advance, and nothing is engraved before your yes.

Does the heart suit an ossuary?

It does, and it is one of the places where it appears most, because the space is narrow. Check with the cemetery first whether there is a size rule for the ossuaries in that area: some have one. If you tell us which cemetery it is and the measurement of the niche, we help work out whether this shape goes in.

Who places the plaque on the grave?

Slate plaques are made to sit on the grave or on the slab, without building work, and many families place them with nobody's help. Before choosing the shape, check with the cemetery whether a placement permit is needed — it is requested from the parish council or the municipality the cemetery belongs to.

How long does it take?

7 to 14 working days of production, counted from the approval of the design and not from the date you write to us. On top of the production time comes the transport, stated in the quote. Whoever has a date in mind should also allow for the time the family takes to choose the photograph.

Can I return a piece engraved with a name?

Pieces engraved to order are not covered by the 14-day right of withdrawal, under article 17 of Portuguese Decree-Law no. 24/2014 — once engraved they are of no use to anyone else. That is exactly why the design is always approved by you before we produce. If the piece arrives faulty or different from the approved design, we correct or replace it at no cost.

You already know the price. All that is missing is the photograph and the name

If you already have the measurement of the space and the photograph, the form on this page does the job. If you have doubts — and most people do — write on WhatsApp and we go through it calmly.
